Synthesis Hosting Review &Rating

Forming into a network of content and product from a personal blog site in 2006, Synthesis is a brand-new hosting company. This hosting provider is founded by a copy-blogger named as Brain Clark and it is said to have more than 2.5 million monthly site visits by the end of 2011. However, it still remains to be unfamiliar to even experienced webmasters.

Synthesis has been dedicated to providing WordPress hosting service, but it is still far behind many reputable hosting providers from many aspects. In the following, we would like to give the all-rounded Synthesis review to unveil the hidden secrets of its pricing policy, features, performance, security and customer support.

At the first place, let’s have a quick look at those ratings on this company’s WordPress hosting service.

Pricing Policy

Having been in the blogging field for several years and knowing what bloggers need, Synthesis offers a total of four optional packages – Standard, Professional, Advanced and Enterprise. This web host sets each plan at a differentiat price, which depends on the allocated features. In details, it rates the plans at $47/mo, $97/mo, $147/mo and $300/mo.

synthesis prcing policyNote that there is a 10% discount for three-month registration. That means, the total prices for each plan are down to $127, $262, $397 and $810. In this way, customers are allowed to save up to 90 bucks altogether, which is quite appealing. However, remember that the initial prices have been set much higher than average regularly, and some of them are even heavy loans especially for individuals and amateurs who host WordPress sites just for their hobbies.

As for refund policy, Synthesis only allows people who want to transfer to another web host having a full refund within the first 30 days of purchase. And there is no pro-rated refund thereafter. What makes Synthesis less convenient than others is that when the initial refund expires, this web host only accepts account cancellation through its “Cancel” link, unless it charges additional fees at the initial subscription rate.

As is mentioned above, each plan consists of different hosting features. For example, the entry-level Standard plan is distributed with 350 GB monthly bandwidth, 1GB memory, 10GB backup storage and 1WordPress install. What’s more, it also consists of some basic and useful features, including SSL certificate, daily backups, fragment caching, etc.

However, fairly speaking, those features are so limited that even its most expensive Enterprise plan only includes 5 WordPress installs. And Synthesis doesn’t support multisite WordPress installs and the Google’s beta page speed service. Another downside is that this company has strict limitations on daily site traffic that it allows 300,000 daily visits at most, which doesn’t deserve the up to $300/mo charges.

synthesis securityBeing conscious of the fact that rock-solid defense is a key to site performance and security, Synthesis utilizes proactive monitoring and malware scanning in each plan. Besides, this company makes use of audited configurations and DDoS security technologies so as to perish potential risks and threats.

Performance & Support

To make its words convincing, Synthesis declares to keep site monitoring from Site Sensor – a site monitoring tool that checks the freshness of users’ XML Sitemap and RSS feed. And this company announces to make site be optimized for SEO and it enhances site performance by using CloudFlare service. However, the truth is the most persuasive talker.

According to customers’ feedbacks in the social forum and community, Synthesis downtime and slow connectivity still remain to be a concern. It is said that this company has constant downtime, server errors and even account suspensions sometimes. As for page loading speed, a disappointed Synthesis user points out that her site has incredibly slow page switching speed for no reason and explanation.

synthesis technical supportIn terms of support, Synthesis really sucks. This company not only refuses to offer customers effective phone call and live chat support methods, but also acts indifferently to anxious clients. The only way people who are stuck in problems can rely on is those static solutions in “FAQs” section and an irresponsive “Help” link.

In summary, Synthesis is not a highly-recommended option for WordPress hosting, due to its expensive charges, limited features, inefficient support and poor performance. Instead, we recommend serious webmasters to choose the VPS hosting plans from the following providers.
