As WordPress is one of the most popular CMSs of the era, millions of people prefer establishing a site using this platform. As the proper utilization of WordPress starts from a successful installation, in this tutorial, we’d like to introduce how to install WordPress locally using DesktopServer.
This is because the traditional method of installing WordPress can be very hectic and complicated. In this case, an effective solution is to use the DesktopServer tool that enables you to establish your sites locally in a few minutes. Moreover, it is a cost-effective solution of installing WordPress in a hassle-free way.
Steps of Using DesktopServer to Install WordPress
The first thing you need to do is to download the DesktopServer tool to your computer. For this, you should navigate to the official website of DesktopServer and choose from the two available options. The Premium version has tremendous numbers of advanced features desired by a developer. However, the Limited version offers all the basic features to set up a site of any kinds. Hence, if you do not need advanced functions, download the Limited version for free from the authorized site.
Once you have downloaded a zip file, you should extract it and run the .exe file in your desktop. You may find a file in an alternative format if you are using a Mac for executing the task. Then, you should click on Accept when the Installation wizard appears on the screen.
Now, you can be taken to the next page where you should choose from the processes of installation, upgrade and uninstall. As you have to install DesktopServer, you must mark the New DesktopServer Limited Installation box and hit the Continue button.
This can install the file on your desktop, and a pop-up window can appear on the screen upon completion.
Now you need to run the installed file. On the next screen, the system asks you whether you want to grant Administrator privileges. These privileges are necessarily required for virtual servers, enabling a browser to locate a .dev domain. Hence, you must mark the field “Yes. Restart DesktopServer with privileges” and hit the Next button.
Then, a Caution note can appear stating that a server can expose the data on your desktop to other users. However, this is not an issue because your server and data are generally protected by the router’s firewall. Hence, you should click the Next option.
Then, you need to mark the “Create a new development website” field and click the Next button in the following page.
Now, you have to enter the site details in respective boxes. For instance, you should enter a desired domain name in the Site Name field. The “.dev” can be added to your entered domain automatically. It should be noted that a folder will be created storing all the WordPress files and your website data. Once done, you should click on the Create button.
Now DesktopServer can establish a WordPress site by creating a database, copying WordPress files and executing every important step for configuration. Upon completion, a window with your site’s URL appears on the screen. You may click on the URL to dig into your newly established website for the first time.
If you click the Next button, you can be brought to a page that requires you to choose a default language.
On the next screen, you should configure the site title, email and login credentials of your website, and hit the Install WordPress option to set up your site successfully.
As everything is done properly, you can get a Success message showcasing the name and password required to enter your WordPress admin.
