When managing your WordPress site, it is possible that you need to create the temporary accounts that can access your admin panel. After a certain time of period, these accounts will expire automatically. In the following, we’d like to tell you how to enable the temporary login in WordPress sites.
Actually, there are a lot of reasons for you to achieve the temporary access to your administrative panel. For instance, it is possible that you are a newbie who needs the helpful hands from some developers to tweak and to adjust your site. If so, you can give them the temporary login instead of generating a new administrator account. After all, if you forget to block or to delete that account, you may give some outsiders the freedom to make changes on your site. This simply leaves your website open and vulnerable to the potential security threats. With the following method, however, you can avoid this possibility effectively.
Utilize the Temporary Login Plugin
Here, to enable the feature of temporary access to your site admin, the easiest method is to use the Temporary Login plugin. This is a simple WordPress plugin that allows you to generate the temporary login accounts that can be self-expiring automatically. You simply need to share the created login links to people directly, which do not require the account username and password at all. In addition, this plugin gives you enough freedom to determine the user roles for the temporary accounts and when the accounts will expire.
Create the Temporary Login Accounts
Once you have successfully and properly installed this WordPress plugin, you do not need to make some further configurations. Instead, you can start the creation of the temporary login accounts directly. Here, you need to click the newly added Temporary Logins button from the Users drop-down list. In the next page, you can click the Create New button.
Here, you firstly need to enter the correct email address of people who can receive the temporary account. Note that this is a required field you should fill out. In addition, if you want, you can also enter their first name and the last name for the better management and to avoid sending to the wrong person.
Next, you should decide the user role this account is assigned to. You can choose your target from the long list of the options. Here, we highly recommend you to carefully check the permissions of the exact role you are looking to choose. This can prevent people from getting the permissions that you do not want them to get.
Lastly, you should decide the validity period of this account. By default, this plugin allows you to choose among 6 options that are ranging from one hour to one month.
Now, you can click the Submit button.
Send the Links of the Temporary Accounts
Now, you can find a success message that contains the temporary login link. With it, people can log in your website admin without the username and password needed. Here, you simply need to copy this link and share it with the right person.
In addition, from this page, you can easily delete and disable this link as you like.
