The normal sidebar is a great website location to showcase the important or additional information. For instance, you can display the latest blog posts, some advertisements and your contact form. In the most cases, the sidebar will appear in a fixed manner. This means it will show the same content on all the pages. However, this is not the best way to leverage the sidebar. Sometimes, you’d better ensure the custom content display with the special awareness. This time, we are going to tell you how to showcase custom sidebar in WordPress with content awareness.
Some Cases to Use the Custom Sidebar
Normally, most webmasters choose to use the typical sidebar. But there are some cases you’d better adopt the custom option.
- It is possible that some of the sidebar content only makes senses on the specific pages. For instance, you can display the latest or the hottest post titles on the common blog pages. And also, you can showcase the contact form or the registration form on the Contact Us and About Us pages only.
- For the first-time audiences, you may want to show them a Sign Up button in the sidebar. However, for the current users, you’d better not to display the Sign Up button, but the Login one instead.
- Here, you can also showcase different CTA buttons on different sidebars to achieve different functions.
- Even, if your web contents are supported by different languages, the custom sidebar can achieve the different language versions.
Showcase Custom Sidebar with Content Aware Sidebars Plugin
Generally, there are two ways to achieve the function of the custom sidebar. Firstly, you can use a single sidebar that is filled with multiple widgets. And these widget options can only appear based on some logical conditions. Another way is that you can create multiple sidebars that can showcase in different pages. No matter which option you choose, you can make use of WordPress sidebar plugins. And this time, we recommend you to use the Content Aware Sidebars plugin.
This is a simple plugin that allows you to showcase the tailored sidebar and the widget options on different posts and pages. The best part of it is that there is no coding and configurations required.
Now, you can create your custom sidebar by clicking the Sidebar > Add New button. Here, you should give the new sidebar a name for the easy management. Then, you need to finish the settings that include Conditions, Schedule, Design and Advanced.
From this part, you should decide when to showcase the sidebar based on the logical conditions. Here, you can select a content type at first, with which the sidebar can be showcased properly. Even, for the content type, you can make the further settings. For instance, if you can choose Pages as the target content type but do not want to display the custom sidebar on all the pages, you can select your target website pages using the special filter.
In addition, you can use the “And” and the “Or” conditions to decide more conditions based on your needs.
Even, each condition or content type has the additional settings part. Here, you can choose between the Singulars display or the Archives one. Also, you can choose the negate conditions. If so, the sidebar information will appear on all the pages but not the selected ones.
Now, you should move to the Schedule part. Here, you firstly should decide the Sidebar Status. We personally recommend you to enable the Status so that you can have the easy afterwards control. And then, you can decide when this sidebar can be activated and when to be deactivated.
If you use the pro version of this plugin, you can even decide to show the sidebar only in the exact given time range on the selected days.
Sidebar Design and Advanced Settings
By default, the style and design of the custom sidebar will be inherited from the default one. In this case, unless you have some special requirements, you can leave these settings unchanged.
In addition, it is possible that you decide to generate multiple sidebars for the different purposes. If so, you can decide their order from the Advanced settings part.
Now, you can move to the Options meta box. From this part, you can choose to replace, merge and forced replace the current sidebar. If you have multiple sidebar options, you can choose your target from the drop-down menu of the Target Sidebar option.
In addition, you can decide the Merge position between the Bottom and the Top options. Also, you can showcase this sidebar to all the users or the logged-on users only.
Now, you should publish this sidebar. And from the left top location, you can find the Manage Widgets button. Just click it. This way, you can insert your wanted widgets into this custom sidebar to showcase the information you want.
