How to Bulk Edit WordPress Meta Descriptions and Titles?

Every blogger knows the importance of SEO, as it greatly affects their site ranking in search engines. WordPress meta descriptions and titles, being parts of your blog, are some of the ranking factors that matter.

Therefore, every time before publishing an article, adding the keywords of posts in your meta descriptions and titles is a must. However, it is likely that some of your old posts are outdated or you have forgotten to write such items, which would cause traffic loss and lower ranking.

If this is the case, how can you deal with so many posts with limited time? You can go into each post or page to edit and optimize the meta description and meta title one by one, but that seems a little bit time-consuming. In this article, we are going to teach you how to bulk edit WordPress meta descriptions and titles using plugins.

Use SEO Bulk Editor

SEO Bulk Editor is a WordPress plugin coming with the All-in-One SEO Pack, which helps you increase your efficiency in managing all the post titles and meta descriptions from just one page.

First, you need to install and activate the plugin. Once done, go to Settings > SEO Bulk Title Editor or SEO Bulk Description Editor.

Settings SEO Bulk Title

If you click SEO Bulk Title Editor, you’ll see what shown in the following screenshot.

Here, you can see much information of your posts, including the titles, types, status, and more on one page. Under the New All-in-One SEO title, you’re allowed to create new titles in the blank textboxes. After all the changes you make, remember to click the “Save” or “Save All” link to apply your changes.

In the same way, you can do the same things for the meta description.

Use SEO Ultimate

As a matter of fact, it’s the click through rate that matters a lot for your traffic, that’s to say, there is no point in achieving success on ranking with an unappealing meta title and description. That’s the reason we introduce the powerful plugin – SEO Ultimate to you.

SEO Ultimate, the all-in-one SEO plugin, can give you control over meta titles, descriptions, auto-linking, open graph, 404 monitoring, and so on. Using this plugin properly, you are able to reclaim your unappealing titles and gain more traffic.

Still, the first thing you need to do is to install and activate the plugin. Once finished, go to SEO > Meta Descriptions. Then you’ll see the following page on the screen.

Meta Description Editor

The Meta Description Editor allows you to bulk edit many posts or pages at a time. What you need to do then is to write your preferred meta descriptions for each post or page. Once done, click “Save Changes”.

If you don’t want to bother to write meta descriptions by yourself, you can rely on the variable template – {excerpt::autogen} that allows you to automatically generate descriptions using the first words of your post.

To do so, you need to click Default Formats, and then fill the template in the field next to the Post Description Format or Page Description Format. Note that this can be a good idea on the condition that the first words of all your posts are well composed for Search Engine Results Page. After finishing, click the “Save Changes” button.

Similarly, you can go to SEO > Title Tag Rewriter, and renew your preferred title the same way you deal with meta description. Remember to save your changes after finishing.
