At present, the image has become a critical component for any website content. With it, you can express your idea in a much more vivid manner and can add more fun into your articles. When uploading an image, you need to consider the image quality, format and beauty. Furthermore, you have to think about the image size that can fit your webpage design properly and do not consume too many of your disk storage.
Surely, you can edit the image size using some special tools such as PhotoShop before uploading to your website. However, if you have changed your WordPress theme or have modified the website design, you have to edit all your existing images with the proper size to fit the current style. Frankly speaking, the manual method for doing so is really time-consuming. In this case, we’d like to introduce how to bulk edit WordPress images to achieve your preferred image size.
Option 1 – Use the Bulk Resize Media Plugin
If you want to achieve the bulk editing of your images for some other size options, the easiest way is to use the related plugins. Here, we firstly recommend you to use the Bulk Resize Media plugin. This user-friendly plugin allows you to resize the huge and large images uploaded on your site. Also, you can make sure that all the new images will be uploaded with the maximum uploading size.
To use this plugin properly, you do not need to set up some complicated settings. Instead, you can click the Media > Bulk Resize button directly. Here, you need to make the decision for the following parts.
- The maximum width and height for images that are displayed in your posts, pages and any custom post type.
- The maximum width and height for those uploaded to your Media Library, theme headers, website logo and background directly.
- The exact value of JPG image quality. Note that the default value for WordPress site is 90.
- Decide whether to convert BMP to JPG or not.
After finishing these settings and save the changes, you can move down to the following area. Here, you can search all the existing images that come with the larger sizes than your determined limit.
From the listing result, you can tick the checkboxes for all the found images, and then, click the Resize Checked Images button. This way, you can resize them in bulk to free your disk space.
Option 2 – Use the Simple Image Sizes Plugin
The second plugin we’d like to recommend is the Simple image Sizes. This plugin allows you to easily create some custom image sizes and applies to your target size with much ease.
To use it, you only need to click the Settings > Media button. Here, you can find a lot of image sizes that can determine the maximum width and height in pixels. The default sizes are for the thumbnail images, medium-size images, large-size images and medium-large images.
Here, you can decide the exact dimensions for each size option and determine whether to crop the images or not. Also, you can click the Add A New Size button for generating the new size option.
Now, you can move down to choose which image sizes you are looking to rebuild. After ticking the target checkboxes, you can save the settings.
The last step is to go to the Media Library, choose the images you want to edit and apply to the action of Regenerate. A few seconds later, the images can be edited with the proper size you have determined.
